NET still crashes windows explorer after clean install of xp sp2 - HELP Please!

I am SO happy to have found this forum and thread... I have a problem that NOBODY can seem to solve... Microsoft, nobody... maybe here?

When I run: http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip It runs for a little while and then the computer quits, monitor goes black.

This happens when I try to do just about anything when it comes .net removal/repair, etc. I recently bought Neat Receipts, which requires .Net 2.0 and even if I do manage to get rid of it, when it asks to install it I get that same dam black screen... any idea, hints, helps? I've run through just about every regedit, etc. trick in the book... and nothing...

Admin note: Moved to Software for more exposure too a possible fix as other thread while dealing with .NET was dealing with a network printer.

While the other thread and user was on Windows XP SP2, are you using the same Windows version or a different one, if so which one? ( run instructions would be different if Vista, as right click the cleanup tool and run as administrator )

Does .NET2.0 install fine on its own without installing Neat Receipts? ( make sure no temp files are on PC from previous install attempts so run CCLeaner and its Cleaner and Registry cleaners ) Download of .NET2.0 if so and it doesnt cause the black screen then at least we narrow the issue to Neat Receipts.

If you look in Event Viewer do you have any error listed from around the time the black screen happened, if so what was the message?

Which version of Neat Receipts do you have? ( links in with what Windows version )

Have you disabled your Antivirus and Firewall software before installing Neat Receipts? if not disable them and try and install.

1) Yes, XP SP2
2) Right now I have 2.0 on the machine and it is semi-stable. I say semi-stable because if I try to install a new app it may crash the machine... also, if I try to go to control panel>add/modify programs>.net 2.0, the system goes to the black screen. I have tried removing 2.0 and reinstalling it (along with all the other .nets (1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 etc.) and the same problem ensues...

I'm going to try the CCLeaner that you recommended in a few minutes... I disabled all antivirus and firewalls (even deleted the progs in one run) -- no change.

On the other hand, I loaded Neat Receipts on a friggin' Mac with Parallels, and it works fine.

Have you run the Windows Installer Cleanup utility?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

This will help cleanup any bits and pieces of .NET

Yes... I did run that... and the system would hang and crash.

I finally gave up and re-installed windows... everything is ok now.

Well... except for one little PITA with Outlook... maybe I'll start a new thread for that.
