netbook setup

    iv just got a 2nd hand Dell mini 10 netbook that has 1gig ram & windows 7 starter. I'd like advice on what to wipe & what to install. should i install xp or keep 7 starter? it has norton but i want to wipe that & have something less hungry, maybe comodo antivirus & firewall?

    Sounds like you already have a good idea. My wife's netbook has Windows 7 Starter (keep it, much better than XP), Comodo Internet Security Suite Free (least resource hungry security software, IMO), Firefox (which she seldom uses, but it's a full featured browser in case her other one doesn't work for a site for some reason) and SR Iron (a browser that's like Chrome, but better). I also (think) I put Irfanview on it, as it's a very light image editor, and I did put MS Word and Excel on it, which she uses regularly, though you can install Open Office instead.

    I also uninstalled the camera dock, can't remember what else... obviously any trialware.

    I also added 1GB of RAM (replaced the 1GB module with a 2GB) for about $20, which made a noticeable speed increase in the machine's performance.
