Netbook wireless cannot connect to work network!

I have a netbook (Acer Aspire One ZG5) that will not connect to my wifi at work, but only on the windows xp pro side. Linux mint 12 connects just fine, every time. Using the built-in Windows wireless network manager I can see the network, and it will say it is connected without problem, but once connected, I can't access the internet, log into the router control panel, or ping the router or any other devices I know are on the network. I have connected the wireless to an unsecure network (my android wifi tether) successfully so it seems like the hardware is alright, but somewhere along the road of connecting to my WPA2 protected work network it get's lost.

I have checked TCP\IP properties and IP address, Default gateway, and DNS servers are all set to automatic. One interesting thing to note is that even though it is set to automatic, the IP is always 192.168.3.26 which is what it is when it is connected on the Linux side. I don't know how the computer got that number seeing as how the computer and router aren't speaking to each other. Even if I manually set an IP that I know isn't used, it's the same story. Says it's connected no problem, no internet or communication with any other device.

it can also tell when the wifi password is wrong (won't connect) so it's got to be talking to the router somehow. I don't know, I want to throw this thing off a freaking plane. If you guys got any advice, it would be greatly appreciated!

I had exactly same problem and found a solution on one of the blogs.

My ACER notebook would not conect to internet although it did recognise the wireless connecttion, I am running Windows XP. It woudl connect on the less secure WEP.

    What I did was this.
Went to the ACER site at http://www.acer.com.au/ac/en/AU/content/drivers and firstly downloaded the appropriate wireless driver for my model, I have the A0a150.

Now this did not work and then I read further and found what I had to do was uninstall the driver then find a more updated model and then down load the later version driver after I nominated the OS. I used the Atheros driver It worked and now it picks up the WAP2

The reason that you most likely can not use your work's network, is because they have it locked down to not allow rogue machines to just up and connect to it. I would suggest talking to your HR & IT department regarding what you are wanting to do.

Haha I am the IT department there. I have full access to the router and anything else I would need, also it is not WPS protected. Just need the password to get on.

Kenfran, I'm having trouble understanding your solution. I also have the AOA150, and the driver that is listed on that downloads page is the latest Atheros driver, and it doesn't work. What part am I leaving out?

Thanks for all the help so far!

Sorry for the delay but have been out of town.

The driver listed under AOA150 on the ACER side just did not work for picking up WPA2 after I downloaded it. I had same problem as you

I followed another bloggers advise and found a more recent version of the driver listed under another model on the ACER site. You should have a whole list under the Aspire group. It worked for me.

I downloaded the Atheros v7.6.0.260 whereas the A0A150 has the 7.6.0.224 on their site. I cannot recall which netbook had the version I used but just a matter of looking but may have been the A0D150

hope this makes sense and works for you

Thanks kenfran! Your solution actually worked. The wireless is confirmed working now.
