'm trying to get a new Netgear ac-1900 setup on my network and initially it worked fine. But now for some reason it keeps assigning me the address of 169.254.218.31 and won't let me log-in to the router interface to fix it. How can I convince it that this is not the correct address? I've tried uninstalling it but the same thing just keeps happening when I re-install it. But I am using a usb to ethernet adapter to connect to to my computer as it was the only way to fit it in.

That most likely is the IP address assigned to you by your ISP.

I recommend you do a complete network reset. Power down and unplug your computer from the wall (this is important to ensure all voltages and settings and reset). Then unplug the power from your router and unplug the power from your modem. Wait a couple minutes. Take this time to verify you router is connected properly to your modem, and your computer to your router.

Power up the modem and wait for the indicator lights to settle down. Then power up the router and wait for those lights to settle. Then finally, the computer.
