I was emailed by my Netgear Router, warning me of IP Spoofing. Netgear has not been much help.

Did the router stop the IP Spoofing or just notify me.
I have the spoofers ip address and would like to set up a rule to block that ip and would like to set the rule up properly.

    Thank you.

Hopefully someone more knowledgable will chime in...

    1) is the IP of the spoofer inside your network or outside?
    2) what connection do you have to the net? (DSL, Cable, OC3)
    3) how big is your network?
    4) have you run spybot and hijack on your computers?

The more we know the better the chance of helping.
I don't think the router can stop the spoofing, but it may block internet access if the spoofer is on your LAN. If you are on cable and the spoofer is outside your LAN - power cycle the cable modem and see if the IP changes, this could just be a fluke in the cable network.

IP is outside of my LAN
    Cable modem 3 computers

My question is when I am setting up the rule, there are about thirty or so services to pick and I am not sure how to pick the right service to block.

the most pertinent piece of information is the model number of your router. If it has stateful packet inspection then it may simply be warning you of the spoof attempt and blocked it. Also, if you could post the meail that the router sent to you, without the IP addresses of course, that may be helpful.
