    Hello,

Had an issue here after the weekend when the evil computing pixes come in and cause havoc - Its one of those even though I wasnt there, I didnt do it, gotta sort it out type Mondays - yeah one of those!! :cry

So issue with our server or at least accessing it, so boss geek in the throws of repairing the issue puts an rj45 etherent fitting / cable, which apparently hadnt been crimmped correctly into one of the ports.

As such the pins have damaged one of two Link/Act feed inputs into our netgear switch. Is there anyway of reapiring this without having to spend megabucks?? basically the pins may have been pressed to far down and now dont firmly? connect? as only get one led out of two... tried resetting etc... no good... I am quite sure the issue is hardware based.

Ideas thoughts solutions and kind words would be appreciated.:wave:cool

Do all the pins in the port look at the same height?

If so, then a pathway on the circuit board has probably been fried and the switch may need to be replaced.

    Hi,

Also: Are the 'Pins' all parallel and evenly spaced. Many times I have seen them get crossed and usually am able to realign them.

    Good Luck, Jim

    Hey there

Yes the pins were all the same hight or seemed to be, it may have been that these got "squished" down to far by an incorrectly crimped rj45 plug. Boss was on site this morning when i got in seemingly everything is all go and have the two l.e.d's doing what they should.

But am still interested to know how does one realign these pins and what sort of tool is used and if the unit can safely remain powered on during this process - my first impression would be no, for safety first... but if everything else is running fine can you potentialy repair a switches ethernet port, without having to power down the whole switch.

In my case this switch provided two of the main feeds that werent really an option to disable, unfortunatley one of these was the port in question. But its all good for now...

Thanks for the response guys. :)
