My PC windows XP SP3, Pentium 4, 3GHz, 503Mb RAM.
I am using a Linksys router and Netgear WG 111v3 networkadapter.
My problem is: after reloading the adapter ( it worked the first time), I met with the following problems. I can see the icon on the desktop but clicking on it wont bring up the smart wireless utility. This is where you check out your SSID , connection, Ip etc.. And there is no Netgear icon either on the taskbar. I can only see the windows icon for connectivity.
When shutting down the PC I will have to wait untill windows slowly closes the netgear adapter program. This is very iritating.
What is going on here? Normally windows has to shut down any program automatically and imidiaty. Anybody?????

you stated after reloading the adapter, why did you reload it what were the issues prior? did you do a complete uninstall and reinstall? can you go to start, all programs and launch it from there?

Hi, thank you for replying. No I cant start it up from start all programs. As far as I can remember I reloaded the program because I downloaded the latest driver. And I did try clean install, removing also the Netgear folder in HKEY-software etc..Nothing helps. I can think of windows blocking the netgear utility. But I can't find this in program-access.
Also I do have 3 "partitions" on my PC which are one for me as administrator, one for my girlfriend and one for guests!! Any problem here??

Hi thanks for replying and no I can't start up from start all programs. As far as I can remember I reloaded because I downloaded the latest driver version. And I also tried a clean start up and removing everything in HKEY-software. I can imaging that windows is blocking my smart utility. Nothing helps. For what it may explain I got 3 "partitions" on my PC which are one for me as administrator, one for my girlfriend and one for guests.

not sure if this is resolved yet but if windows wireless utility works I would just leave it alone. you could do a restore to a previous date to when the utility was working ok but that could create more or other problems. Did you do a virus and spyware scan using malwarebytes? You stated you are trying to load the latest driver have you tried going back to the older one? The best thing and the most time consuming thing to do when things like this happens is to back everything up and do a clean reinstall of the operating system and programs
