Netgear WGT624 and DSL connection problems

I have a small home network, with the Netgear WGT624 wired to my computer, and a DSL modem (Speedstream 4100 by Siemens). My wife's computer is connected by a USB wireless link (Netgear WG111T). This setup is an improvement over a prior one, but I still lose the internet connection every other week or so and have to log-in to the router from my computer to relink which usually is quick and easy (but not always!), and sometimes even though I'm hooked up and connected my wife's will lose connection, forcing her to reload the Netgear wizard app and reconnect. This occurs about every week or so.

I think everything is hooked up properly and secured. I've seen in other site forums that the Netgear WGT624 is prone to overheating (have mine upright for max air circulation) and while its a bit warm, it doesn't seem excessivly so.

I'm using Yahoo/SBC, and they tell me I'm near the end of the limit on the line for DSL.

Is this periodic loss of connection something normal? If not, any thoughts on what I can do or learn about to deal better with this?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts/comments!

What is the full model # and version number on your router? It should show it on the bottom of it.

No its definitaly not normal, don't let them tell you that. If they sign you up, they should provide service.

The most complete ID of the router seems to be the FCC ID: PY3WG624V3

    Thanks guys!

It seems to me that there is some mix-up here.

    There is, your DSL Connection.

    Your wired computer.

    Your wife's Wireless computer.

If your computer is connected directly to the DSL Modem (No Router) and you lose the connection, then it might be a provider problem.

If the provider side is working well and you lose the connection while using the Router and the Wired computer, then it might be a Router problem.

If your wife’s computer loses the connection while your computer is OK and can use the connection, then it is Wireless Problem.

So first isolate what is the problem, then we can talk about solutions.

Set up Comcast hispeed connected through a comcast modem to a motorola voice terminal for vonage telephone service and then the netgear is connected to the motorola for wireless access.

Lately the netgear has been dropping 2-3 times a day (though today has been even more) the vonage\motorola terminal is not losing connectivity therefore I believe the problem is with the netgear router. Ive read a couple of threads indicating this model has problems with overheating but this does not seem to be the problem.

Each and every time the only correction needed is to unplug the netgear router and I regain connection but that is of course very annoying to do several times a day. The router is several years old but I don't know if that should be a factor or not.
