I have installed a Netgear WNR2000 router as a wireless access point in my dining room connected upstairs via a cable to a Router serving the rest of the house .
The main reason for doing this is although the router upstairs (DLINK ) was ok it was only producing 80 % signal where i was sitting in dining room , so as i had a spare Netgear router i installed it ,as a wireless access point (Turning off DHCP ).
After rebooting everything i now have a 100% signal which is what i was after , and full internet access .
The problem is that i can only connect to it in Wireless G mode ie 54Mbs even though the laptop i have is a N class machine which should be giving me up to 300mbps .
Bit confused or am i expecting too much ,

    regards,
    Peter

It is only going to be as fast as the slowest link. Just because you have a N router, does not mean that the network is going to run any faster. Depending on the chipset in the DLink, and the WAN to LAN, will be the factor, and again, will not make your connection to your ISP any faster. Only thing good about having that fast of a connection with the N, is when transferring files between two machines on WiFi, and if the router has gig LAN, it would allow faster transfer to those machines hardwired with gig cards.

As for the Wireless-N card in the Laptop, have you checked to make sure that you are connecting to the Netgear, and the wireless card is properly set up.
