Netscape Messenger List Problem

I am using Netscape 7.0 and Messenger. I need to send emails to groups of people. I have made three lists (for example, one is Birdfest) in the Messenger Address Book, following the directions. However, when I send an email to the list (say, Birdfest), instead of the email being sent to each email address within the list, the email is sent only to the list name as the sole addressee (i.e., Birdfest@suchandsuch.com). The email message bounces back, of course, because there is no such addressss.

I have carefully examined the Netscape help as well as attempted to get some kind of answer through Netscape.com. No success.

Anyone out there who does this successfully who can tell me how to do this?
