Network Cable Unplugged?

I'm trying to connect my daughter's laptop (Win 2000 Pro) to my wireless home network using a Linksys WPC11 Wireless Network PC card. Not having much luck. I get a status: 'Network Cable Unplugged' - on the Network and Dial-up Connections window. But there ain't no cable?? Can anyone help me correct this??

I'm using the Netgear WGR614 Wireless Router.

Go into Control Panel > Network Connections, you should have an icon for "Wireless Network Connection" and if viewed as Tiles it should list the device for this connection.

Do you have this icon? If not, then it's not installed properly. If so, then be sure Windows is controlling the Wireless Settings and try to connect.

Is there any security on the Wireless network as in WPA?

 

Thanks - I got it working, but I don't really like the solution. I went in the the settings on the Netgear Router Manager Control Panel and changed the security settings. The Wireless Settings had been set to 'access control on'. After removing the check-mark, it connected.

Not sure why that did it - I'm thinking that the mac address for the laptop might have been entered incorrectly. BUT - as soon as it connected, my 16 year old was so happy, that she ran off with the laptop, and I haven't seen either since . . .
