Just got my ADSL connection from Verizon today :) , far cry from dialup. I noticed in TCP Optimizer, under Network Adapter that I can't make my D-link NIC stay put, I have the Custom tab checked, modify all Network adapt. checked, hit apply and ok to reboot, just won't stay - also noticed in Control panel, Network , configuration tab, there are 4 items listed, not sure if all of them need to be there:
    1 - D-link...
    2 - dialup adapter...
    3 - TCP/IP D-link...
    4 - TCP/IP dialup adapt...

Can / should I remove any thing, could this be the problem with the TCP Optimizer ??

Checked my speed with Speakeasy - connection I have from Verizon is 768/128, test results were 716/131, so I think the speeds are pretty close to where they belong

    Thanks for any input -

You can remove unnecessary connections in the Control Panel Network Connection.

However, the core info stays in the registry and program like TCPoptimizer read it as though the connections are still valid. There is a way to remove it from the registry. However, it is a rather complicated process.

In any case, for practical purposes it does not matter, you can check in TCPoptimizer the entry that says Modify all network adaptors and it would work well.

    :)

Cat5e could you take a minute and look this over for me, I did some more research on this problem, and found this link - http://www.intel.com/support/deviceview/sb/cs-013381.htm,
I believe this is my problem, my dialup adapt is my "primary" adapt, which I verified using the info found in this link, so to correct the situation I need to remove DUN, that should then make my NIC my "primary" adapter - I do have my Win. 98SE CD, should I ever need to reinstall DUN, this is a "Stand Alone Computer" - Am I missing anything here ??? Also, am I correct that I DO NOT need DUN now that I am using ADSL ????
Most of this is new to me and I'm trying to get a handle on this DSL thing so I can get the most out of it !!!!
    Thanks :)

    Hi JoeN,
I think you should take out the dial up connections as Cat5e suggested.
Those dial up connections conflict with the DSL in some cases.

I agree LBMEST, just wanted to make sure I was going about it the right way, I'm going to remove DUN from the add/remove section of the Control Panel, that SHOULD take care of the dial-up adapter problem in both the Registery and Network applet - I'll let you know how it goes - thanks for the post :)
