Network Connection Trouble

Hi Rhys Here, first time asking a question but I use MG's heaps and it's tips/picks and freeware have helped heaps in the past. I don't qualify as a geek 'cause technically, computer-wise, I'm too thick. I think I might scrape in as a sub-sub-sub-sub-geek with the last sub being to the power of a number greater than the number of stars in the Universe. Which is practicably inconceivable when you try and picture it in your head; [which I do lots]. What I'm trying to say in a long winded way is that I would appreciate it if your assistance, if available, wasn't too technically worded.
Anyway - I'm connected to the Internet which I use everyday however when I try to download anything like I just attempted then with "Reimage Repair", a message pops up to inform me that I'm not connected and to check network connection. I looked at past posts and went into control panel/device manager etc. but that was all ok. This started about a week ago but didn't coincide with the installation of any new software or new hardware. Up until then downloading was A-O.K! I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium with Mozilla Firefox as my browser.
Please can anyone help because I am now bald from pulling out my hair in frustration.
By the way to do a test I tried downloading a Torrent [Shock-Horror] only to run a control test, and it worked fine. Came back here to download "Reimage Repair", with the same non-result. Thankyou in advance for any help you may be able to proffer!!!! Rhys

Have you tried Internet Explorer, and if so do you see the same symptoms? You might also try Firefox with all add-ons disabled, and as with any internet-related problem the onboard security software might be causing issues. What antispyware/antivirus programs are you running?

One more: are you successful in downloading any other file from MajorGeeks?

Be patient - I'm sure other MGs will jump in shortly. In the meantime please supply any information you think might be pertinent.
