Hey, I'm on windows xp pro and in network connections it doesn't list my network adapter. Any ideas why?

    Start the network connections service.

    Or, if that doesn't work:

    start, run, regsvr32 netshell.dll.

    Click OK.

    Reboot.

    Test.

    Well netshell.dll is:

    Network Connections Shell

regsvr32.exe reregisters it, which adds certain values back into the registry for the dll to work.

Just tried it, it still won't work :( If I try to refresh in network connections it says it cant and asks if the service is started. I started it manually and it still wouldent work, I also tried that reg thing and rebooted (still don't really get what it does tho).

Well I thought it was a realtek but just checked device manager and it seems to be a AcerLAN ALN-201 PCI Ethernet Adapter. Oh yea, I don't think it's a problem with the card, I think its some services I may have disabled as advice from blackvipers. Not sure which tho. Cause I remember it showing up when I first installed XP (I think).

The only one that should be required are Network Connections service and its dependencies.

However if you have that service started, then the dependencies are as well.

I only ask the nic question because I show certain nic services have caused this.

Huh?.. Well anyway, any ideas..? I even tried setting it to automatic and rebooted, no dice. Oh, and did all that reg thing do was re enable the service?

    OMFG I am an idiot.

The file you need to reregister is netman.dll, not netshell.dll.

    regsvr32 netman.dll

IT WORKS!!! THANK YOU!!! Haha, What did the first one do? What did the second one do? It seems to have started network connections but what else? WHy didnt it work when I started it manually?

EDIT: Hey when I goto the Advanced Properties of the Local Connection dealie I get this. I know it's not a big deal, but I'm just wondering...

Well, when you reregister a file, it just rewrites registry entries associated with that dll.

So, unless its broken, it doesnt do anything at all.

Apparently registry entries used by netman.dll were corrupted.

    You just rewrote them.

At least, thats how I understand it.

There are two Windows Management Instrumentation services on your computer.

Make sure they can both be started.

Dammit! Why does nothing ever work for me!? lol. One was set to auto, one was set to manual, both will start manually. Tried it, still shows the error.
