Just when I think I'm getting a handle on things Windows throws me a curve ball. It now wants my Network credentials for my desk top. I suspect it is my login for my admin account on my Minitower but the password I have recorded doesn't work. So how do I get my network credentials password?

    Frustrating.

    Probably something similar to this....

    1. http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar.
      The router login window displays.
    2. Enter the router admin user name and password.
The user name is admin. The password is the one that you specified during setup. The user name and password are case-sensitive....
The .168.1.1 could be different like 168.1.0 or 168 .0.1... Look up your router/access point's name. If you didn't change it during setup, probably you can find it on the router itself or in the book.
Common is user='admin' and password = 'password'

Have you disabled Password Protected Sharing in Network and Sharing Centre?

Thanks for the reply. I went into User Accounts and tried to manage them, here are the two screens (trimmed to save space). Try as I might it won't let me change the password on the second screen (though it did seem to take once (didn't work) and won't let me do it again.

I am at a loss as to what is happening.

It worked until I upgraded Windows 10 on Minitower.
    Yes.

Interestingly, even though my home network usually works reliably, occasionally it pops up a dialog box asking me for my network credentials, i.e. username and password, even though Password Protected Sharing is disabled. This sounds like the same issue you are having except when this happens I can enter anything and it lets me in. By coincidence it happened this evening and I entered x and y as username and password and it gave me access.

I use this tutorial as my bible for home networking and highly recommend you check everything on both systems using it.

Lists are my bane, I think, it is because the stroke skragged my short term memory. That and my eyes were affected. So going through option 1 I got stuck on step 4 (shown in screen shot below). they assume I know what "Function Discovery Resource Publication and Function Discovery Provider Host" is, and I will know where to find them. This is going to take a while I'm afraid.

They are Windows services that have to be on the recommended settings. You can get to them through Task Manager - long winded - or simply type services.msc in search. Double click an item to its change settings. Hope you are able to persist.

continued.... You may only need to work through Option One which ensures the systems are correctly configured for networking . The remaining options are concerned with different options for sharing files so only use as necessary.

I am easily distracted (sorry about that). My b-day was last Fri. Last time I got it to work I had to change my password on my M$ account. Much as I hate to ( I am always afraid I will lock myself out of my own computer, which makes me very reluctant to try), Right now this machine is my life, such as it is. The next step as I see it is to make sure which account is on this machine. Then pin down the password again and start from scratch.

I've been clean installing Win 10.2004 on my laptop after the 2004 update repeatedly failed and hit exactly the same problem - asking for my network credentials when I try to connect to my desktop. The desktop uses a microsoft account with a PIN rather than a local account with a password and I wondered if that was the problem. I changed the login to local account with password and the problem disappeared and I was able to connect. Restored it to microsoft account with PIN and the problem did not recur.

    Hope this helps.

So I figured out what account I am logged in as on Minitower.

    Hey it's a start.

It doesn't sound like you have made any effort to understand and apply what I said in my last post.

Not yet, I did go through the preliminary steps. Because it takes me so long to shuttle between the two computers in my wheelchair I tend to put it off. It also doesn't help that I have the attention span of a gnat. Weird as It may sound I'm staying incredibly busy pushing my limits and exploring my house and all the boxes they stashed my shtuff in right after the stroke. A handy man has been making my home more and more accessible as time slips by. Wanna guess where my stimulus money has been going? Only a few more things left to do. Yay! I'm even trying to solder again with my one working hand. Gotta keep pushing.
