I dont know what has happened.. but lately this has been a problem.

    I have 3 computers:

    Destiny (my main computer)
    Hope (my sis's computer)
    LL (my laptop)

Anyways, "Destiny" is my main computer which I use to download anime/videos/anything. It has a folder called "LL Shared" which my other computers in my network can access to copy it into the respective computer.

The problem is this lately... on ANY new files I downloaded to Destiny... the other computers do see the file.. BUT can NOT download it or run/play it (it'll give an error saying (Install_AIM.exe will be the example):

"Cannot coopy Install_AIM: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and teh file is not currently in use."

For media files, it just says:

"Windows Media Player cannot access the file"

The ONLY solution for me to do is to move the file to another directory then move it back to the share folder... then the file will be accessable for copying or running on another computer.

Can anyone tell me the cause of this and solution to fix this (I have no idea what caused it to be like this now and it's pretty annoying).

    Thanks.

make user names and passwords exactly matching on all computers, it sounds like somehow its keeping access info off your PC. I could be wrong but try that.

Are you running windows XP? Actually that isn't important. Are you using ntfs as your filesystem on destiny. If so chances are you have the default file permissions set to not inherit, which means the group everyone doesn't get access by default. Which also explains why copying to another folder and then back into it works. Because the default for any windows folder is to inherit and the default includes read access for the everyone group. So copying it out gives the file the permissions it needs and then copying it back in leaves those permissions in tact.

So in short, make sure the ntfs file permissions include the read permission and that in the advanced tab inherit is enabled.

Thanks for all the info, anyways, I am running on NTFS and checked all the suggestions (which wasn't the problem).

I finally figured it out (although it was a bit surprising).

Apparently, if I downloading anything with Mozilla's FireFox download manager (not 3rd party softwares like Getright/Bittorrnet/etc)... that will cause the problem.

If I download that same file with IE, the problem wont happen at all.

I suspect it's because of version 0.9.3 (which I updated to a few days ago) because I know that the previous Firefox version did NOT have that problem at all.

It's making me think if I should download the extension to use 3rd party software to download or something to avoid this problem.
