I recently set a home network using a NETGEAR DG834GT modem router. The main PC is connected via an ethernet cable and the laptop via a built in wireless card.

The Internet connection is working fine for both PC's but I am unable to share files across the network. I can only see the shared folders that have been set on for each machine when I am at that machine. I can successfully ping each machine from the other and when I look at view workgroup computers can see both machines.

When I try to access one machine from the other using view workgroup computers I get a pop up message that reads: -

\\server is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The network path was not found.

I have read home networking for dummies, the information that cane with the router and Microsoft help but cannot seem to enable this feature. I would be grateful for an advice.

Make sure File and Printer sharing is enabled on the machine you are wanting to access. Also make sure that the firewall software is setup for the LAN to be in the "Trusted" Zones. If you do a search in Windows XP Help and Support for "Setup a Home Network". You should not have to run the networking wizard, due to once you set up File and Printer Sharing, and have the user names on all machines correct, you should be able to access any computer in a workgroup.

    Thanks Guys

I will cetainly give this a try. I also think that part of the problem is that I have run the setup wizard on both machines and that perhaps both think they are the server in a server/client network. Is there any way I can undo what the wizard does so tha I can start again?

Only if you ran for ICS. I have never had to run the Networking wizard on a machine, due to the fact that it causes more problems then it is worth.
