NETWORK Hardwear not installed

:-D Got a free laptop , Toshiba Satellite A80-S178TD , busted screen . Start up a little messed up but when it is in normal mode it dose not see the network card or wireless , IE diag states that there is no hardwear install , Device Manager dose not show network just has 3 pci devices that are yellow (?) . When I open in safe mode without networking Device Manager sees the network harwear but will not see it in safemode with netwoking . It has a Atheros wireless modem in it . Should I just toss it or fix ?

 

Is there an external switch? Or it is one of the 3 unrecognized devices.

 

get a boot disk, Hirems or something like it, boot to that then test the hardware from there.

Depends on how the screen the got busted as to whether you think its worth it. The old "close the lid with my pen above my keyboard" trick tends to just bust the screen but sudden impact trauma or getting stepped on can easily frig up the inner workings too.

 

You might want to head over to Dell Support and download the current network drivers. If the laptop was in a docking station and incorrectly removed, the drivers can become corrupted. $.02

 

It dose have the external switch but it does nothing , no light nothing .
Yes it is 3 devices , 2 are just device and the 3rd. is a modem .

 

Not sure where to get a boot disk , never had much luck with them . The screen was punched so it is a hard fracture not no ooops I forgat my pen . The system works good just no networking .

 

Not sure why I should head to Dell when I have a Toshiba and when I made a CD of the latest bios with another pc it didn't work . Toshiba doesn't offer much .
