i'm helping a friend to connect a wireless router to a verizon DSL line.
i can get online with the verizon modem but when i insert the wireless router the connection fails.

the router was previously used on a comcast line and worked, so the drivers for the router is installed, but when i checked device manager it said the drivers weren't installed.

i've double checked all the connections and they are correct.

    any suggestions?

you have wired the wan port on the router to the verizon modem, correct? then are trying to connect the computer wirelessly to the router, correct?

what kind of router and what kind of wireless card?

the connections are what is asked for in the setup procedures on the install disk.

the person wants to connected their laptop wirelessly to the network. the router is wired to the desktop PC.

    to clarify:
    phone line>verizon modem>wireless router>desktop PC.
she wants to use the wireless router so her laptop can connect wirelessly to the network.

oh, its a linksys router. i have no idea what the card is, i'll have to make a trip to her house to get model numbers.
this setup worked on the comcast setup.

    the network still doesn't work.

the connection fails when i insert the router between the DSL modem and the computer.

device manager shows that the drivers aren't installed for this device (router).
i remind you that the router worked when she had comcast.

Do you mean the wired connection fails when you insert the router?

If so, double check the log in details for the new ISP.
There are no drivers for the router to be installed on your comp so it doesn't show up in Device Manager. You are installing software to connect to the router.
Also, was there additional security set up previously on the router - MAC filter, DHCP limit on leases?

May need to reset router to factory defaults and start process over using the previous link by Digitalocksmith - http://www.ehow.com/how_2091718_set-...ss-router.html
