Hi I have a netowrk printer installed on my network, it is plugged into the router with a cat5 cable, and it supposedly has an IP address. I have gone to my router page, and it can see a device (although it is unknown) at that ip address, which makes me think that it is there.

I am able to install the printer, however, whenever I try to print to it, it just does nothing. I am not sure what is going wrong.

I have just reinstalled windows, and it worked before the fresh install. I have downloaded the drivers for it from the Fuji Xerox website (as it is a FX DocuCentre 1085), and it installed as you would expect it to.

I have tried printing simple text files, as well as running the test page on the printer properties, however nothing comes out.

    Any suggestions?

    Regards

Goldenskull I can't follow the rules

Go to Start then Control panel then Performance and Maintenance then Administrative tools then double click on services.

Then in Services look for Print Spooler then double click on it make sure it says Automatic.

If Startup Type does not say Automatic please make it Auto

Then in Service Status If it says Stoped Click on Start then click on Apply then ok then it should run.

Hi, thanks for that, I have tried this, and it did not like me. I Have also started the bluetooth services in there as well. I am not sure what the problem is.

I have also tried to delete the drivers, and reinstall the printer, to no avail.

I have looked on the router as it is a network printer, and there is a device attached to the ip address the printer service has given it (and I tried to ping it, and I got a response)

I am seriously stuck as to what the problem is

    Any other suggestions?

    Regards

You need to know what the IP address of the printer. If it is different than the router, you need to change the printer ip address to match the router. Remember the last number in ip of the printer must not be the same as the router.

    Hi, thanks for that,

the router is at 192.168.1.100 and the printer is at .211, so I believe that this should be ok.

I might call Fuji tomorrow and see if they know what the problem is.

You could also try pinging the printer, to see if your computer is seeing the printer.

Thanks, I have also tried that :). I am getting a reply form the printer.

I have also tried (unsucesfully) to use the COPYCON command in command prompt to see if I can print to it, but as far as I can tell, this will only allow me to use it through the LPT1 port.

Do you have all your appropriate windows updates and other drivers installed, ie chipset and so on? Assuming your internet works, have you tried browsing to the printers ip in a web browser, maybe theres some settings such as authorizing it to work on your pc's ip, which may have changed with the reinstall, unlikely but possible. Also reaching the interface in a browser would indicate that its a driver/spooler issue instead of a network error.

I don't have all the windows downgrades installed, as I don't see the need, I do the security hot-fixes, that's about all.

I will try the IP in the browser, but don't feel hopeful. The printer just doesn't seem to be connecting to the ethernet port. It is very strange.

    Tried calling fuji.. >< closed.

    Thanks for your help :)

PS: agreed with the comment about USB sticks, this is for my mother....
