Ok, I had this problem a while ago and now that I switched the printer off of my computer to my family computer, the problem is occuring again. This is how my network looks like as of now.

My computer and the family room computer are both running Windows XP. My mom's laptop is running Windows XP Media Center Edition. The printer doesn't work at all on her laptop now. It used to work if I used an address thing like \\192.168.1.101 but that doesn't work now (I've tried .100- .104). Any help? I need to get this printer working for school.

If you have switched the computer it was on ...then you need to "reinstall" them back onto the other puters .....delete them off the client computers then do a install networked printer ....

I tried to do that and it always comes up with "Cannot find printer on the network", or some error like that. It's weird, the laptop doesnt even see the other two computers on the network and can't share files, even though I'm pretty sure it is on the same network .

That could be the problem .....you'll have to check that it is in the same "workgroup" and that it has at least one user profile that is exactly the same profile on each of the other computers ( same name, same password and accessed at least once on each computer).

Ok I have them all on the same workgroup. What do you mean they need to have the same profiles accessed at least once? Could you elaborate on that part a little bit more?

Err... this 10 minute edit time thing made me post a whole new post. Well I was able to hook up my computer fine and it found the printer on the network very easily. The laptop will not work though. I searched for printers on the network under Add Printer but I'm stuck waiting at "Searching for printers...".

As to user accounts .....you should have an exact same user account on all the computers .....create a user account ...call it what you want (printer, default ...) with the same password ....on each computer ...log into the account on each computer at least once ...then try to install the networked printer.

You're right, I just realised that the Dell and my computer have the same account on them but the laptop doesn't. I'll add it to the laptop and post back with my results.

Hmm, it didn't work. It just said Microsoft Network, or something like that, in the network tree but didn't show any specific computers. Right now I have it so that the laptop connects to the printer by the old way I had it (\\192.168.2.100). That disallows me from printing from web pages though so I would still like to fix the problem.

I'd suggest you reset your lan config so that it auto detects rather than static ip address, then turn off computer, router and modem ....turn on modem, wait, turn on router, wait, turn on computers ....see if it resets the ip addresses and gives you your network.

If wired ..right click the local connection / properties / on the ethernet card hit customize then set obtain to auto ip and dns....reboot. then recycle the modem and router and computers (turn all off and restart them in that order.)

    Same for the wireless ....
