Network problem between 2000 and XP

Hi,
I have a dell laptop running Windows XP home edition and a Linksys Wireless-G router connected to my desktop which is running Windows 2000 professional. I can't use the print function from my laptop, though every other aspect of the network is working. The printer is a hp psc 2210xi. I have tried to get outside help, but they suggested I purchase Windows XP professional and that will solve the problem. I am looking for a cheaper solution, any help is appreciated.

Can Printer be seen on Laptop?
How Is printer Connected to other PC, Direct, Router, switch, Print server?
All drivers Installed?
Printsharing Is enabled?
You can share Files, just not print?
Firewall could be blocking.

I have several PC's networked, Various OS, XP Home/XP pro/W2K pro, I used to have Win 98/98SE, all could share files/printer (Printer was connected to One PC running XP Home) the only problem I had was when another PC was printing it would interupt what ever program was running on the Pc that the printer was connected to, I am now running Multi fuction Printer/scanner/copier/etc that has print server built in which connect's to my router. I dont have any wireless PC's I got the whole house wired with Cat5/RJ45 Cable, So if is wireless thing I probably wouldnt Know.
What I learned was printer connected to printserver and or networked off a router or switch is the Cat's ASS.

Thanks for the response.

The printer is connected to the PC directly through a USB port and all the necessary drivers are installed, I believe! Printsharing is enabled and I can share files. The laptop can not see the printer. I use the shareware verision of Zone Alarm and have both my computers in the trusted area, could there be anything else with Zone Alarm? Maybe I am missing something easy. Thanks again for the help, I will double check everything you asked.

Both computers have printer drivers installed? rite?
If driver's are installed, sharing enabled, and still cant see printer, try turn off firewall , then can you see printer?
