I have a problem that keep recurring with my home network. I have a Dell desktop computer running Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit and a Dell laptop running Windows 7 Pro, 32 bit. I have these two computers set up as a home network, in the same home group. I can see either computer's files on the other computer, I have a printer connected via USB to the desktop, and I can print to it without a problem most of the time. My problem is that some of the time when I try to print from my laptop I have lost my network connection. I cannot see my desktop, and the desktop cannot see the laptop. I can't print. If I run the diagnostic program, it says that the computer is there but there is a name recognition problem. I get error 0x80070035 for a detail, but I think that is pretty generic. I have found that if I re-boot both computers, the network can be restored and I can print and see the data again.

I am using a D-Link DI-524 router to link the computers. The destop is connected by a cable, the laptop is wireless. I am using a cable modem, connected to the router for internet access, and it never loses connectivity. When my network has the error, the internet is still accessable to both computers even though they are not seeing each other.

Is there a time-out setting somewhere that I have missed? I have recently had to replace the harddrive in the desktop and did a fresh install of Windows 7. I have also re-formatted the laptop and done a fresh install of Windows 7. This problem did not occur before the new installations of Windows 7.

I have everything working, it just won't stay that way. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

OK then. I see that no one can help me with this much information. Let me add a bit. I have found that if my desktop computer goes to sleep, the network connection is lost and I have to re-boot the desktop to get the network back. It does not re-establish its connection just by waking it. For now I have set it so that it does not ever sleep. I hate to keep it from ever sleeping, but this is the only way I can seem to find a solution to keeping the network. Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing which is prohibiting the re-establishment of the network when the desktop wakes?

Thanks for the input, but it did the same thing after the computer went to sleep. The network won't re-connect until I re-boot the desktop.

Just to clarify, the desktop is hardwired into the router, and the laptop is attaching wirelessly.
