network questions

i am on a with this computer anthother computer and a xbox 360 is it possible to use programs from the other computer through the network i heard you could but i never knew how

 

I believe the answer is no. To do that, the software must be designed to run off a server, accessed via computers networked to the server. This would typically involve multi-user applications. For example, you could have an accounting program designed to run from a server and be accessed by one person doing payroll work, another person doing accounts payable, another person doing accounts receivable, etc, with each of these users accessing the program from their workstations/computers which are connected to the server.

File sharing is where files one computer can be accessed from another computer via a network. For example, a Word file on one computer could be accessable from one or more other computers, assuming these computers are on the same network.

Likewise, a printer attached to one computer on a network can be shared with other computers on the network, eliminating the need for a printer for each computer.

A basic home or small office network can be set up using a router.
