Network Router

Hello Everyone,

I am looking to purchase a new router that includes all security protections as well as VPN. I would prefer that we don't have to pay a per license VPN fee, but if we have to we have to. Any one have any suggestions for thoughts about what is a good one?

 

Are you looking for a home router solution or a business class VPN concentrator?

 

Small Business network...prob 10-20 users at office and 1-3 VPN connections.

 

D-Link used to offer a no-frills IPSec VPN/Router, DI-804HV, but I believe it has been discontinued. I played with one briefly, about four years ago, and it did seem to work. I don't recall how granular you could get with firewall definitions but it may be something worth looking into, if D-Link offers a replacement product (or if you are willing to hunt in the used market). Searching D-Link's website, it looks like they have a VPN/Firewall category. Some of models you may want to look at include: DIR-130, and DIR-330. The DFL-1600 appears to be a slightly higher end product. I haven't touched any of Linksys' VPN products, but you may want to look at the BEFVP41. Perhaps others have additional suggestions, but that's all I'm familiar with on the lower end. Hope that helps.

have you had a look at untangle? It will give you gateway functionality plus many other extra security modules including firewall, anti-spam, anti-virus, web filtering, VPN, WAN failover etc. Its easy to deploy and manage. However its license based.
