Networking 2 OS so I can share hard drive space?

Here's the deal, I have Windows XP Home on 1 pc and Windows 2000 pro on another. They are networked to share internet (cable), which is working fine.But can I Get them so I can share the Windows Xp hard drive? I did make a networking floppy, but when I try opening it with the Windows 2000 it comes up with a system 32 error. Or will I need to put XP on both pc's?

 

Ditch the floppy....
Make sure you have at least 1 shared folder at a minimum on both machines.
Make sure both computers are on the same workgroup
Then go to network neighborhood or my network places (depending on your OS)
and see if you can see the other computer by name.
Make sure the guest account is off under users
and sometimes it helps to have a common account username and pass on both computers, even if its not the current log on.

Those are all windows things... now, other things that are @ss biters, make sure your firewalls are configured correctly. If you have XP SP2 it is turned on by default. If your running 3rd party software make sure your subnet is in the trusted zone.

Try these and let us know specifically where you are at if it does not work.

 

Well not sure what I did nor how, but I got it to share finallly. I'm not sure if I set it up right finally or what happened. But thank's for the input, this was hounding me for a week.

 

i have a D-LINK 604 router and windows 2000 on this pc and windows xp sp2 on the other they only share internet connections can i share a drive???
