I have a highschool teenager who is going to home school. He will be taking classes online. I want to set up a computer for his bedroom. I already have secure wireless in the house, so a simple wireless reciever and the computer is good to go. What I want to know is how I can secure the computer from undesireable sites and still give enough freedom to use the internet for study purposes.

you could make a limited account for him with parental controls. xp and vista have that built in to the OS.

Thanks King Steve, As you know kids today are really computer smart and find ways around blocks. I'm wanting to pick the minds of Major Geeks members so I can head off problems before they Start.

A tedious way is to add sites that you don't want him to access into the host file.

Do you just not put an IP for the website if you do the hosts file thing?

You have to put it in twice.

Best solution of all and free to boot. Set the computer in an area where you could walk by and see him and his activity's anytime. Like you said, kids get around technology based blocks all the time.
