Networking issue - Unable to ping

I have 2 computers, one with ASUS Mobo and the other with a Chaintech. I use a DLINK Wireless router, connecting one machine thru the RJ45 cable, the other using a DLINK Wireless USB card. Both machines can reach the internet. From a machine I am unable to ping the other. It happens both ways.

From one computer, in the View Computers in Workgroup, I can see other machine, but not the other way around. Network Neighborhood does not show the other machine, even though I have enabled Sharing Files and printers.

I have disables all software firewalls on both machines. Both machines run on XP SP2.

Any help to resolve this issue is appreciated.

You said you cannot ping? Does that mean the computer name?

Try pinging the IP first. If that works....
ping the computer name. If that works...
go to Start, Search, Computers on the network, and type the other computers name. If that does not work...
Make sure they are in the same workgroup and that both have enable netbios over TCPIP enabled under advanced settings on the TCPIP service. When you say the firewall is dropped is that a 3rd party or XP's?. Check these things out and get back with us

 

I have a similar setup, with a NetGear ADSL router and 1 ethernet connection and 1 wireless. I recall there's an option to hide the wireless group from the ethernet group, maybe that is the problem in your case? Also you can tighten/untighten security on your router to allow pings to all PC's or not.

Do your machines have the same subnet mask? Are your firewall configured properly (have you added your LAN ip range as your home network??)
