Hello. I'm new to Major Geeks and the reason why I made a account because I am having a on going problem with my network. This problem have been going on for a few years now.
Everyday about 4 or 5 times a day my net goes down for about 10 seconds and comes back up. For some of you guys this isn't a major problem but for me I am a gamer. So, it gets very annoying when I disconnect from online games.
I've been through 2 computers and both had the problem. I have bought 3 different routers and still the same problem. And 2 different network cards.

Computer: Alienware Aurora Windows Vista SP1 32 bit OS

    Internet provider: Cox Cable

My router: NETGEAR - RangeMax 802.11g Wireless Router

My network card: Linksys RangePlus Wireless PCI Adapter WMP110

Modem: SB5101 Series SURFboard® Cable Modem

I'm good with computers but not that good with networking. Before I go out and buy a 300$ gaming network card I like to get this problem fix.
Before people post and ask questions let me try and help out. There's no cordless phone in the house. My computer is on the second floor and modem is on the first floor. I called Cox about this and they said nothing is wrong on there end. Excellent signal 24/7.
Thanks for any help. If you need more info please feel free to ask.

Intermitting problems are one of the hardest to diagnose,
Its easy for your Cable people to say everything is alright at their end, because of the short time its interrupted.
Start by watching the modem, what lights go out when this occurs, not going to be easy
with modem on one floor and you on the other, but you need to start @ the beginning where the signal comes in (your modem)
I had a similiar issue at a clients business it took 2 weeks but turned out it was not the modem but the cable cdoming into the building had an intermitting short.
    Keep us posted

Do you have a static or dynamic IP address from Cox? Charter is the cable service in my area, and wireless routers are not one of their favorite things to have to try and troubleshoot.
I have had a similar issue before with my old Belkin G router. At least once/day it would drop a connection and re-set. If I unplugged the router and cable modem, then plug the cable modem in, let it boot completely, then plug the router back in, I would get almost a week of uninterrupted connectivity.
I got a static IP, and I no longer have that problem.

Something like this would happen to me too. It was because i had a few cable splitters in place for TVs and whatnot before the line fed into my cable modem. The signal would attenuate before it got to my modem which accounted for the disconnects. Not sure if this situation would account for your problem though.
