hi i recently moved into a new home and found that i had thought there was a wired network in my house. i think this is partially true. although the rooms have NO phone jacks, also i dont have a home phone just use a cell phone. every room has what appear to be 2 ethernet ports/jacks. one is blue and one is green, not sure if that means anything to anyone. anyways i got at&t internet and was sent the kit and then hooked up the filter thing to one of the ports then to the router and then the router to the PC which it sits next too. then i followed the wires and came to realize they all meet in the basment ceiling but are not crimped with ethernet male ends and they just were never used obviously.
so i've been going the wireless route for my gaming consoles in the basement, but i jsut want the entire home to be wired, i dont like the wireless and there's a few things that i want to be wired rather than wireless. does anyone know of either companies that do professional installation or does this sound like i need to have the whole house re-wired or is this a simple do-it-yourself. i really have no idea what to even search for online when trying to find services for this "professional network installation" etc i just come up with commercial sites for big server farms. any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

You will have to have some type of router to manage network traffic. You will also need a RJ45 crimper and the color map for a network cable, normally EIA 568B. It would also be good to have some type of network tool to test your connections, not really necessary, however will help to identify cabling issues. The process is actually very easy and if you already have a wireless device, you probably have the ability to wire, at least 4 devices.

This is one of those times where you need to resort to the local Yellow Pages.

Look for electricians that specialize in network wiring (i.e. CAT5 and CAT6). You can also talk to local Mom & Pop computer companies and business phone system vendors that can do wiring. If nothing else, they may be able to refer you to someone locally.
