Never heard of this problem before. Anyone help??

Anyone every encounter this? Very strange. I am on a high-speed internet provider. My internet browsing speed and file downloads from places like Tucows and Downloads which have been 60-100 kb/s have dropped to below 5. Here is the weird part. If I use Ares - the peer-to-peer file sharing program--the downloads are as fast as always. I have replaced the modem and the network card with no change.

What browser are you using to download?

 

IE 6-- running windows 98 SE

 

Have you run any Spyware programs to rule that out? Try running Ad-Aware and/or SpyBot-Search & Destroy to remove any potential spyware on your machine. This can, alot of time, be the cause of browser problems.

Yes. I have run both of those programs. They have removed everything they found.

The problem must be somewhere on my computer since the ISP tech guy ran his computer with my isp # and everything was good.

 

Try a different browser, such as firefox, and see if you have the same problem. That way, may be possible to narrow it down to your browser maybe?

Try ftp from a command prompt or another program, and download some large files. Make sure you hit several different sites, so your sure it's not just the FTP site that is throttled.

Did the technician actually come to your home and try it out? That's the only way to rule out a problem with your isp. Are you using a router? You might also need to update your firmware.
