I just bought some Logitech Z-640 5.1 Surround Sound speakers. I hooked up everything right and they all play sound, but I have no idea if they sound good or not. Some of my games sound worse now, and I also am confused on where to place the speakers. The front two are fine, as is the subwoofer. But when I have my center speaker on top of my moniter, it is not facing me, but at an angle over my head. Is this ok or do I need to figure something else out? And my main problem: I do not know what to do with the back two speakers. The manual tells me to place them the same distance from me as my front two(which, of course, is about half a foot). Unless I can devise a way to make them float in mid-air, I appear to be screwed. Please help!

for placement, the back 2 are fine to be 3-4 feet from you. they have a level that you can turn up to keep them sounding good. if possible, it's nice to have the center speaker facing you, as it is directional sound and you'll be losing some if its blasting over you.

the front left and fron right speakers should be about a foot or two away from the monitor (or as far as your deskspace permits) as the center channel is meant to fill in the gap between. (where in a 4.1 system the front speakers are supposed to hug the monitor)

also, you should be able to play a test sound in your audio configuration to make sure the 5.1 is working correctly.

Thanks. Now my only problem is how to get the back two speakers a few feet away from me. There is nothing but air behing me for quite a ways, so how do I put them there? I don't have deskspace behind me(who does, that would be a wierd desk.), so what do I do? Any ideas?

i bought a pair of speaker stands from Wal Mart... the same style and material i find in expensive stores for $150... for $40.

they work great, unless you've found a way to get them situated wthout them

THANK YOU! I'll see if I can look at Wal-Mart for some today or tommorrow! One question: are they adjustable? (I assume so, but what do I know...)

yes... they come with a number of fittings to hold just about any speakers (i improvised, but they ended up fitting nicely on my Klipsch Promedia 5.1. they are also height adjustable, swivel (left and right) and hide the cord inside

they are made by Atlantic and are gray. they come in a flat white box in the corner of the electronics department
