hey guys, i'm new to the forum but not really new to computers... i just purchased a brand new m2n32-sli deluxe wifi mobo to replace my hp mobo. my computer was originally an hp but i've been replacing it part by part and wanted to get rid of the crappy hp mobo.

Anyways i installed the mobo and made all the connections and fired her up... green light went on saying theres power and when i turned it on it stayed on for 4-5 seconds and then shut off. usually when this happens its due to cpu not seated right so i reseated it and tried again... nothing. i checked all connections and everything is fine including 4 pin cpu power connector. i did some research and people said to reseat graphics card in either slot, clear cmos, install only one stick of ram or two sticks etc. none of these have worked.

    here's my stuff:

    Rosewill 500w psu
    amd x2 5000 cpu
    evga 8600 gts gpu
    2 WD 500GB HD's
looks like 2 x 1 gig samsung ram and 2 x 512 samsung ram (factory hp memory pc 5300 cpu-z says they are only at ~340 mhz though)
    zalman 9700 cpu cooler

some people say that new asus mobos especially with 570 chipsets or 590, in my case, tend to be memory touchy but would cheap memory like mine not even let the computer stay on? also the bios version is 0603 or somthing like that but my cpu needs 1201 or something.... would that not let it post or even stay on? if thats the case how can i even update the bios?

i also reformatted before switching mobos and i know nothing is bad (psu, cpu, gpu) because i put the old hp board back in and that's what im typing with now.

    thanks everyone

This seems like the cpu is your problem.
I had to buy a cheap cpu to get my present motherboard running, then downloaded the later bios.
It will not work without the update.

why in the world would they release motherboards that wont run certain cpus when the package says it will??!! i noticed the bios chip is in a chip mount... can you get a new chip from asus? or is buying an old cpu the only way?

When you read the bumf on some of these motherboards- capable of...., ready for.....
Yes, I agree it is misleading, but the only way that a motherboard, originally designed for a slower/earlier cpu, can be updated, to suit the other cpu's is often by bios updates.
I found it annoying, but did expect it, myself, and I got a cheaper , in my case 775, celron 2.93 ghz to use for the bios update - cost me about $40(£20), but it was easy, and worth it in the end, as I have all that I need on my present motherboard, and still half the price of a regular state of the art motherboard.
Processors have updated really fast , with AMD and Intel pushing competing, Intel,s dual core, core 2 duo, and quad core cpu's in the last 12 months.
