I just thought I'd gush at how fantastic the new Intel 2600K is! It's %33 faster than an i7 930 and only $30 more! It has an unlocked multiplyer too. I was going to go with an AMD hexa-core at first but just pulled the trigger on the Intel buy.

Damn man, the better OC'rs are getting near 50K PPD ATM.:eek

WOW... sounds great Augie, what mobo are you sticking that in and what are the other PCs specs?

Are you getting the 2.8ghz or 3.4ghz?

    I know the feeling.
    It's all good though.

I use an older system myself socket 939 SLI AMD64 X2 4200+ running two classic cpu WU's (to close for comfort to continue the SMP WU's) and two Alpha Dog Nvidia 8800GS cards (one standard the other factory over clocked) and seem to do well production wise. (considering the output devices)

It would be nice to have another system similar.

May the Fold be with you.

I wish something like this was out when I built my I7 930 rig I didn't like spending only £210 on the CPU but the next step up was IIRC the I7 940 @ over £400 which was too expensive.

The the 2600K is £270 over here which kinda plugs the Gap but I think Intel should have a £300 CPU too.

EDIT Haven't you got an I7 920 rig Augie? What you doing with that?

Is it a boy or a girl?;) :-D :drool

Congratulations, I hope the delivery, by Dr. UPS, and the install(?) or uninstall;) goes naturally and requires no anesthetic.:zzz

I was hoping the P55 stuff would drastically drop in price when the P67 goodies came out, but I haven't seen that yet.:cry

On Tuesday 2/2/2011 my ISP is coming to install a fiber optic cable for my PC/TV/phone, it will not make my folding any faster but it will send the results quicker :-D

    painful indeed. :(

just checked out the posted link.

"Intel Identifies Cougar Point Chipset Error, Halts Shipments"

looks like alot of RMA's then wait a month or two, then how to be 100% certain no remaining bad chips still remain in the selling/buying arena?

Thanks merkin_tile. Seems like my PSU failed again, 6 month old Corsair CX600.:cry I subbed an X2 mobo in there and all fans/lights were on but no video signal, same as the Sandy Bridge(SB). I then subbed my old abused Antec Earthwatts 500W and the X2 booted just fine, unfortunately the Antec won't even power up the fans on the SB mobo so I'm stuck with some good but useless H/W for a few weeks.:cry

Strange that the PSU worked fine with my Q6600 machine just before I switched it to the SB mobo.:confused It's not as if I'm taxing the thing as I only had a 9800GT hooked up.

Anyways, MSI (like most if not all makers) will issue a prepaid label to ship the board back and then send me a new one after registering. They say end March/April but unless they fly the boards in I can't see that happening.(read expensive) Maybe they'll just refurb the boards with the new chips and charge Intel for that work.

Thanks, the worst part is that I'm not like everyone else! At least they get to use their machines until the swap, where as my mobo doesn't work at all and I have to wait for a replacement like everyone else!:cry It better NOT be the same board sent back!

Anyways, I'm down to the i7 -bigadv plus a 260 and 470. That's not too shabby.:)

You had two corsair PSU's fail on you Augie?:confused

This is the first Corsair PSU I've bought the TX950,they haven't been making them long AFAIK.

Seems to be so Rikky but I'm not going to RMA it just yet. Yes my tests point to it being faulty though I find it hard to believe. I've got plenty of time to replace that with their warranty.;)

Don't worry Rikky, it's an excellent brand.:) I'm just not lucky or plain stupid!:-D

Hey Auggie, sorry to hear about your MB and PSU's being burnt toaster strudel. :( NewEgg has a tier 1 850 Watt XFX power supply, for $100, after discounts codes and rebates, till Feb. 9th. JohnnyGuru just raves about this PSU, as it guts are Seasonic.

Hopes this helps you and some others. This PSU deal sounds so tempting, I might get one to power my single 'cutting'-edge contact cartridge, slot 1 Pentium. ;) (I always enjoyed smearing 2 quarts of thermal compound on those things) :-D ;)

No, I replaced my sorely abused Antec Earthwatts 500W with the Corsair 600W that may be faulty.
