New Build. CAN ONLY RUN IN SAFE MODE

Newbee needs help. New machine w/Gigabyte MA770-UD3, AMD X2 7750. 4G mem (2-2G sticks), Diamond Sound Card XS51 and WD IDE HD. First issue, could not load XP. Put drive in another machine and loaded XP (sp2) sucessfully. Could only boot into Safe Mode. Tried another drive, same issue. Have cleared CMOS a couple of times and reset defaults. So far Gigabyte Tech Support in no help. Please advise before I return board.

 

Try downloading Memtest86+ and run that for a while... see if you get any errors. Also get the Western Digital HD tester to see if you have a problem with your drive. I'd also take out any additional peripherals, such as your sound card, any additional ram, etc. You need to reduce the number of variables.

 

Memtest indicated no issues. Set up is only with video bd, (1) 2G mem stick and hard drive. I think the issue is with the board. I have reset CMOS, updated bios, reloaded Defaults. I'm very fustrated at this point. Going to try Gigabyte Tech Support one more time tomorrow.

 

Will XP see or work with 4 GB of RAM?

 

I tried 4G, same issue.

Have you tried with one 2gb stick of RAM? Then the other stick? Maybe try each stick by itself in different slots? If you could also tell us exactly what is happening when XP doesn't install, it would be helpful. Do you get any error messages? How far into the install does it go? Does Windows setup recognize and format the drive? Some details would definitely help.

I guess I didn't post messages correctly as I loaded XP on the drive in another computer and still can only open in Safe Mode. Also tried different drive with same results. Have tried mem in all slots with same result.
