Ok, I'm new here so don't shot me if this is in the wrong place

I have $300 I am looking for a new build.

    I already have a:

    seasonic PSU
    GTX 260
    case
sata dvd out of old build
sata HD out of old build

basically I think the old MB or processor fried so I am trying to get something up and running

++Most important is upgrade ability and quality. The dinosaur I am on now is about 7 years old.

I would like a MB with:
    sata 6.0
    usb 3
other than that--just the basics--here is where I start to sound like a newb
    connection for cable internet
    etc.

    processor
    ram

I'd like to do the fastest best for the $300. No preference on AMD or Intel as most of what I do is internet and basic programs. I do some gaming but the game I am interested in was released in 2007--so we are fine with just about anything now

Any help would be appreciated. I would go for an asus board but the reveiws don't look so hot, but the one I have has been solid--so I dunno.

    Help please

On this build recommendation, I'm assuming your case will hold a full size ATX board.

    Board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157280

    CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103995

    Memory: (quantity 2) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148346

This is about $260 for the CPU, Motherboard and 8 GB DDR3 RAM. Don't forget to add in a copy of Windows 7 Premium ($100) if you don't already have a disc and valid license.

    Hope this helps. :)

Right. And with 8Gb, you will need 64-bit Windows 7. Understand only the "boxed" full Retail license can be transferred to a new computer (or upgraded motherboard). It is illegal to use an OEM license that came with or was purchased for another computer on a new computer. If the disk says OEM/System Builder, Upgrade, Academic Edition, or "For Distribution with a new PC only", then it is not transferable to a new PC (or upgraded motherboard) under any circumstances. These OEM licenses are inextricably tied to the "original equipment". If you don't have the original disks, or if Windows was pre-installed on your old drive, you will need a new license. If a new 64-bit Windows 7 license blows the budget, go for one of the many free Linux alternatives.

Would recommend Linux Mint or Ubuntu if you go that route.

Oops, sorry hrlow2. For some reason, I thought that was a question and not a recommendation.

Man I hate reading negative reviews--makes me question everything--lol. I appreciate the help.

Bummed I can use my windows disc from the old build considering it is dead.

I assume you mean you can not use your disk. But yeah, that's they way intellectual property copyright laws work - you didn't buy the disk, you bought the license to use the software. It was simply distributed to you on the disk. And you agreed to abide by the terms of the license when you decided to continue using it.

Still, $100 for a new OEM 64-bit license is not too bad, and almost 1/2 the cost of the full retail version.
