First time build: What do you think?
I have a 10 yr old + Compaq & it just can’t take it any more.
I’m looking for something like light gamming, HEAVY multitasking.
I want a full system tray with lots of things running in the back ground copy a dvd & never see a flash light or hour glass again.
May try a bit of video editing, a little Photoshop, maybe some video capturing, coping old family VHS to DVD & I use windows office.
Just want to be able to do a bit of everything I can’t do now. Bang for the buck!!
I will be using my old CRT monitor, mouse, keyboard, webcam & speakers for now. Will upgrade these later when funds are available.
This looks like it can be up graded to quad when prices drop & going 64 bit should not be a problem when I go from 32.
I am NOT a teckie so please go easy on any technical issues.
Will all these things work together & fit with no problems.
Want Quality products for reliability, durability.
    Thanks:
    Suggestions welcome:

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3424761&CatId=1842 $80.00
I plan on adding the 3rd fan. Is the fan controller a good idea? Clear side would be nice with fan air flow directed to The cpu.

    Misc: silver & antistatic.

Am I forgetting anything? Hardware, ram Or hard drive coolers (heat sinks) cables etc.

This comes in at a little over $700.00 (I don’t want to go much over if any) retail thru Comp USA (tiger direct)
I’m using them because Comp usa is local & I will have a person to deal with in case of problems.

    Thanks in advance:

Go for Vista 64bit- XP is dead and is being phased out. With Windows 7 coming out, less and left software will be made to work with XP. I'd go with the BE processor- it will overclock better. You will also need a heatsink, as the BE processors do not come with one. I'd reccomend an Artic Cooler 64. You will also need thermal paste such as Artic Silver 5 to attach the heatsink to the cpu. Be sure to price check against other retailers such as www.newegg.com

I would also go with the Black Edition processor. You can use AMD overdrive to Overclock it within Windows. You also don't specify a budget, but I wouldn't get Windows XP SP3 for $150. With your specs I would at least get a 64bit system. Also Windows 7 RC1is available free for 1 year under Windows Genuine License so I would probably get that, I'm using it and it's great.

Your memory is fine, and your mobo says it supports 1066, but just a note, most memory will be at 800mhz because that is standard for mobo's. But if you can change the timings in the Bios I'm sure you can boost it to 1066, sometimes it just happens to run at 1066 automatically, other time's it doesn't. You'd have to check using the Bios or downloading a nifty program called CPU-Z.

You say you want to use the PC for "light gaming", you haven't mentioned it specifically but it looks like your going SLI? That's two graphics cards. I play moderate to sometimes high end gaming and I am using a GeForce 8600GT OC'd and I'm fine. You may want to consider getting a lower end Graphics card (although 9500GT isn't too spectacular). I know some people are going to say get a higher series GPU but it's all up to what you want to do.

$700 is quite a lot (well for me I'm a cheap-o). Just for reference I built my PC new as well it's an AMD Phenom II X4 810, Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P, 4Gb OCZ platinum dual channel ram, GeForce 8600GT, Antec 500W PSU, CoolerMaster Elite 310 case, I recycled two HDD's from other comp's, and recycled two Optical drives from two comps (both DVDRW combo's though
since I do a lot of burning) all for $400.

    Hello,

I can see you having major issues with that PSU. Make sure you buy one that is on the "good" section of this list:

    http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195

If you go with a no-name or cheap PSU then it will blow before too long, not to mention frying other components and providing poor quality power.
