My friend (honestly not me) bought some parts to build himself a new rig. I have done several for family and friends and enjoy doing it. Well I offered my help and he decided to do it on his own. Well he came over this morning and wanted a floppy drive, what for I asked. Well he had no vid on his new rig. So I asked him if he mounted the cpu and heatsink correctly, he said he did or though so, then I asked if maybe he put to many standoffs on the tray and it might have shorted. He said what are standoffs.
Turns out he screwed the mb directly to the case, no beeps no post or vid. Can't get into the bios. Removed the ram still no beeps. Its a asrock motherbaord with onboard vid and a duel core intel socket 775. The heat sink gets warm to the touch, would this mean that the cpu is not cooked, then maybe just the motherboard? Bench tested it and same thing. any thoughts Thanks in advance

MOBO installed without Standoffs:eek: The MOBO is probably Dead & maybe other hardware along with it

The best thing would be is to test "All Hardware" in a known working system

You or your friend might get lucky, you can try this:
Have someone with a bit more experience.
Disassemble the entire system, then inspect all hardware for burn marks or other obvious problems.
If everything look O.K. reassemble & before you try to Post/boot give the MOBO a Long CMOS reset 24 hr

Maybe she'll come back from the dead

    P.S. cross fingers too:)

thanks for replies. I looked at the back of the board and there were no noticeable burn marks, but with all that solder somethings cooked. I showed him how to reset the cmos and still nothing. I own only amd products so can't test them here. He might be able to take the cpu to a local shop and see if they can test it. The motherboard is only a $70 board so will be a fairly inexpensive lesson but if the cpu is cooked well...theres another $150.
