New build

I've been so out of the loop with computer parts (been about 2 years) I have to post here.
This build is for a gf of mine, her computer just crapped out on her and I convinced her to get one built - she had a crappy sony.
So for something under or around $500 what would you guys recommend?
She just needs it for surfing and email, that's it, no gaming.
She also will have XP pro installed.
