Its been a while since I upgraded so I thoroughly deserve this :p I've held off upgrading in the past due to the pitiful number of games I wish to play but there's quite a number that I must have,COD modern warfare 1+2,Crysis+update pack,ARMA 1+2,operation flashpoint dragon rising, tom clancy vegas to name just a few,I also got Batman arkham Asylum free with the comp as a special.

    Here's the build

It's like Christmas,I'm not bragging I just want others to share in my joy and obviously I want to talk about it with like minded people who are interested:dood My family and friends couldn't care less:-D

Here's the parts:-D All boxed up,I still haven't pulled it all out of the boxes yet,I've pulled the GTX480 out,Its freaking HUGE!:eek:eek I knew it was gonna be big but damn!!!
    http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b214/Rikky_/newrig.jpg

The hardest thing was choosing the case, the parts have broke me so I didn't have much for the case so at first I went for this purely because it has decent cooling and and I could build and use the comp straight away,I also thought it was large.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Xcli...id-Tower-Case-with-2-x180mm-Side-Fans-w-o-PSU

But after some advice in store this case is a terrible case, its cramped inside and the build quality is terrible so I've ended up going for the Sharkoon rebel, there's plenty of room inside and plenty of space for fans,2X 140mm,2 X 120mm,6 80mm,the 140mm suck air through the front and blow it out the back, the two 120's suck air in through the side and blow directly on the the Mainboard and the 6X80's also suck air in at the bottom.

I'm not quite happy though the GTX480 is a scorcher it will be creating 300watts of heat that has to be got rid of,the I7 will pump 130watts of heat into the mix also so I may be cutting a fan hole at the top of the case and stick a 140mm there:cool

Here's the case, notice the PSU is at the bottom,Hmmm I'm not sure I like the idea of the PSU heat rising up toward the video card, but we'll see once its built,I'm gonna pump so much air through there I don't think it will matter anyway.

I opted for a 950watt Corsair PSU,it has a massive 78amps on a SINGLE 12v rail! :drool:drool:drool This should give me enough headroom to add a second card at a later date in SLI.

I'm gonna be running win 7 home premium on my 34gig raptor and a 500gig storage drive,I wish I could afford a solid state drive but the bank is broke, that's something to look forward to buying,I've got a 22inch 1600X1200 monitor to run the 480 on.

Any thought's are welcome,good/bad have I bought the best parts, any improvements?Basically what do you guys think...

You spotted the problem straight away Rikky it heat.

The 480 (i Have one) runs under load around 80 to 85C and i have seen mine reach 100:eek but thats OK because they are rated at 105C but it does make you panic when you see those temps.

I have 5 X 120mm fans in mine and it sound like an airplane at times but because i am folding it needs the ventilation.

Nice rig when you have it up and running.

Ooh, just lovely!:drool You'll really like the i7 930 stock cooling but if you're going to OC it past 3.6GHz, I'd think about better cooling. I hear ya on the heat issue as I have a 470 but at full load it's only 75C with %75 fan(just bearable noise). Ya on the size of the 480 but if it's the same as my 470 then it's still an inch shorter than the GTX260-216.

Cases are tough nuts to crack when choosing one though, you might want to cut some strategic holes, one above the mobo for the 12V EATX cable(you may need an extension) and a large hole to pass those thick Corsair sleeved cables(I've got a TX750W) and route as much as you can by the back. The heat given off by the PSU is negligable as it takes in outside air and exhausts the same. In that config, the cabling will be next to the right side of the case.

    Great machine Rikky!:clap:dancer:hyper:wine

I'd love to have a better cooler but I'm strapped:-D I'm gonna try the stock HSF see how she blows,I won't be overclocking for a while.

I've just got this aswell, really cool little package for the price,it has 3 seperate fan speed controls with RPM monitor and 3 temperature sensors with included probes plus over temperature alarm and low RPM alarm.

    Only £14,gonna hook 3 140mm fans to it,bought these

Got to be honest i just hooked one of them up and it doesn't have that much power at all...

    900rpm 60CFM at full power,not bad I guess,they are completely silent though.

I've been very satisfied with the stock coolers on intel chips, so you should be fine there. nice rig.

Right just finished plumbing the fans and wiring in,here's the inside of each side panel, there are 4 80mm intakes at the bottom and 2 120mm at the top.

    TIP OF THE DAY!
Use aluminium tape to secure wires,it sticks awesome and looks professional.

I've ended up cutting a blowhole in the top of the case I couldn't fin a 140mm fan guard anywhere so I bodged a 120mm one in, it just fits and I'm fairly pleased with the result,I now have 3 140mm fans,1 intake and 2 exhaust.

Nice, I tried to put two 120 fans on a left side panel blowing in and the noise was unbearable when I put the side back on, I guess I didn't have enough air being pushed out, only thing I can think of.

I was just thinking, I hope the noise is bearable with the other fans as well.
It will probably sound like a helicopter.

I wouldn't have any fan without a speed control,I connected the 3 140mm fans to the digital fan control at the top and the 80mm+120mm to the Aerogate at the bottom which has been liberated from my old comp so 7 fan controls in all.

    http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b214/Rikky_/DSCF1977.jpg

These Thermalright X-silent liquid bearing 140mm fans are pretty quiet actually 16db which is almost inaudible so I may not need to slow them down,at a full 12V they only do 900RPM but push 60CFM. Only £6 each.

I turn them all down until they are almost inaudible, that's what I did with my old rig I had 5 120mm 110 CFM fans but I turned them all down so they just made a low frequency rumble while shifting twice as much air as an 80mm fan screaming its nuts off.

What I'll do when its finished is make a video of all of them running full then I'll turn them all down to every day use.

Nice new build. I really need to clean my puter. I have gotten so lazy with the computer stuff lately. I have not upgraded my main computer in several years... :-D

I need to look into this idea as my PC (6X120 and a Coolmaster V8) are really loud so i can only run the PC during the day for folding because we live in an apartment and my wife is a very light sleeper.
