New built PC - can I use monitor thru the graphics card during 1st power up?

I have just built a new system with an AMD 64 3500 in a Asus A8V MoBo, and am about to power up for the first time. BUT I have just discovered that although my Monitor cable connects to my Graphics card (an old PCI one - the new one is in the post), it does not connect direct to the MOBO. The cable has a 15 pin (5/5/5) head and the MoBo has a 9 pin socket (5/4).

My question is: Will the monitor work thru the Graphics card before the OS is installed? I would guess not, but tonight is the night.

If its an AGP graphics card, It will work :) .

Even if its a PCI, most modern mobos will detect it and allow you to do BIOS setup using it.

the graphics should detect the DVI output (which is what your cable sounds like) just fine.
