    Hi all
i just upgraded my computer around 3 weeks ago. The following is my setup:
    CPU: AMD 5200+
    MB: Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H v1.0
    GFX: Asus EN8600 GT Magic
    HDD: 320gig seagate SATA
    RAM: 2gig corsair

Just this morning im finding the computer booting up slowly. Not from running XP but right at the start when you see the Energy star, what your CPU is running etc. All you see is what your CPU is in the computer. The next bit it should show is how much rams onboard and what IDE etcetc stuff is in the computer. But all this doesnt happen for like 3-5mins.
I have tried unplugging one at a time each ram, hdd, graphics and rebooting and the same thing happens. I do have some malware issue recently which im still trying to get rid of could this be a cause? or is it my motherboard?

    thanks in advance
    TC

Welcome to Major Geeks. Try resetting the CMOS; there's usually a jumper right near the battery. It will be on pins 1-2 for normal and you'd move it pins 2-3 to reset (or vice versa). Be sure to unplug the power cord from the PC before opening the case. Leave the jumper in 'clear CMOS' mode for about 30 seconds, then move the jumper back, and power up. You should get an error that says something like "CMOS checksum error. Press F1 to continue; F2 for setup." Press the required key for setup and set the date and time, but make no other changes. Be sure to save the settings and reboot. Let us know if that works, and if not, we'll go from there.

    hi
sorry i havent replied earlier i just wanted to see if this would definately fix the issue. I have cleared the CMOS using your method and the computer booted up right away. Next time it would boot ok not as fast but within 10seconds or more. But it just continue to get slower and slower. Today it did the same thing but wouldnt boot up at all after 5minutes plus. I had to clear the cmos again for it to actually boot up.
Any idea what i should do? should i just format the whole computer would that help? or is it a hardware issue?
i thought id also add a hijack this log in case thats the next thing you guys ask for. I ran it in normal boot up not in safe mode if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance! really appreciate this

My system is very sporadic with initial boot up, before the initial POST and I cant exactly ascertain why. Some days it is very quick and then on other days it takes it's damn time. I'm not overly concerned as it does boot up the vast majority of the times and I just turn it on.....go and make a coffee and come back. On the rare occasion it is still going through the hoops but normally it is in the OS.

yeah but the comps only 3weeks old so its something i dont expect. I might as well stick with my old Athlon it was slow but atleast it booted up :)
right now it doesnt even get to the OS stage it just hangs and doesnt even register the rams, hdd etcetc. Before atleast after 3-5mins it would boot. Now im kinda worried cause it does nothing!
