    VERY nice motherboard.

I don't see any compatibility issues.

    Hi Laura

my initial thought is that I would go for a larger capacity PSU, something in the 650w range as 500w is pretty low for todays hardware, especially if your possibly going to add more components over time.

Hard Drive is a bit small for today also, my options would be a fast WD Raptor 10000rpm 150GB and then a 2nd HD for data storage and backups etc the 160GB would be ok for this, but to give idea, I have just added a 1Terrabyte HD as data storage, for music, images, backups, files, docs etc as my 250GB data drive is getting or was getting full ( until clearout ), you may not need to goto the excess I did, but these days OSes and software are all growning in size so space runs out quickly, add the MP3 players that many have and you have an iPod Touch, the MP3s stored on a PC can take up masses of space, I only ripped part of my collection of Cds and my MP3 folder is at 56GB.

Nice choice of CPU, Mobo and GFX card

Have to ask, what things will you be wishing to use this PC for? its a general question I ask so to guage what parts maybe needed, changed or removed ( possible is the soundcard as the ASUS mobo has a good soundchip on it, these days mobo onboard sound is very good, I know my mobo has similar chip and the sound is superb )

Only thing I would do differently is skip buying the sound card and use the onboard one.

EDIT: Halo does have some good points, I haven't taken usage into account at all.

k, so upgrade the CPU, HD and PSU. Take out the sound card (not an issue with me). I could probably downgrade the video card since graphics intensive gaming isn't going to happen. I wish I could use the video card I bought a couple of years ago, but it AGP.

What I want is a computer that I can upgrade. I usually go with Dell and upgrade the components as much as they allow. I'd rather build one that I know will be easier to upgrade.

btw, I have a total of 4GB of RAM in my cart.

See what other people think about the CPU I posted, its the fastest CPU in that price bracket before they go into silly money IMO.

It has PCI-E 2.0 which you will enable you to upgrade the video card for quite a while, its almost impossible to future upgrade proof a computer, the new midrange Intel penryn cores will be out soon and may bring a new socket, many people including me are waiting for them.

Not happy with the power supply specifications.

9amps at 115 volts input makes more than 1kilowatt (1000w). That makes this 500watt supply less than 50% efficient so why do they rate it at 70%. (still low for a switching regulator).

Also if it's putting 500 watts of heat into you case in addition to 500watts of electricity this will lead to one big cooling problem.

Halo mentioned the PSU problem also. Does this look better? I'm confused with this on the connections.

That's more like it for electrical spec.

If you use a power supply with the fan in this configuration it will interfere with at least the rear fan in the chosen case. How was you processor cooler and cooler cowling/baffle going to work? The PSU fan will draw air over the processor. I haven't time tonight but you need to look at the position of the processor on the motherboard in relation to all the other fans. I'm also not sure the case top fan will do much as it is easy to obstruct once you have the cables in, even with slimmer SATA. Also you will have to resist the temptation not to obstruct the top vent.
