I'm having trouble doing the afforementioned. I have set up a local area connection between the two computers, one of which has internet, the other does not, so I wouldn't be able to do any type of networking that requires both to have internet access. The local area connection says that it is "slow"- 100 megs per second between the two. I don't know how I would go about transferring files from one to the next because there's nothing where I can click and drag files from one to another or anything like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If you running Windows Xp, go to Start>Accessories>System Tools>Files and Settings Trasfer Wizard. Maybe that will help you.

    Maybe this might help:

Use Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to transfer files
    1. Get the files and settings from the old computer:
    a. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.
    b. Click Next, click Old Computer, and then click Next.
    c. Select a transfer method, such as Floppy Drive or Other (such as a removable or network drive), and then click Next.
    d. Select the appropriate option for the items that you want to transfer:
    • Settings only
    • Files only
    • Both files and settings
    • Customize
    e. Click Next, click OK, and then click Finish.

    2. On the New Computer:
    a. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.
    b. Click Next, and then click New Computer.
    c. Click to select the I don't need a Wizard Disk. I have already collected my files and settings from my old computer check box.
    d. Select Floppy drive or Other, depending on how you stored your files.
    e. Select Yes or No to log off of the computer. The new settings do not take effect until you log off.
    f. Click Finish.
NOTE: The transfer method under Direct Cable only supports serial ports and cable, and not parallel ports and cable.

the reason you didnt see any files to drag and drop is because you didnt share any. if you want try drag and dropping you can share your c: drive and that should be all your files unless you have more than one harddrive then you would have to do the same with them. once you share it you should be able to see it on your other computer in network places.
