New Computer Issues

Ok so I am having serious issues with my computer and I am unsure why!
Lets Start off with my specs:
Abit AN8 Ultra mother board
AMD 3800+ Dual Core Processor
2XTwin 512MB DDR Corsair XMS Ram
FX5500OC PCI Video Card
300GB Maxtor HardDrive
Lite-On DVD-R DL

The Problem:
When I run Windows XP Pro or Home My comp just Randomly Freezes without warning. The mouse doesn't even move! When I run linux there seems to be no problem. If anyone else has run into this problem please relay any help to me... it would greatly be appricated!

 

Any info in your events viewer?
Control Panel > Admin Tools > Event Viewer

 

Under the system it has numerous errors stating "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\D." Any suggestions?

 

Have you run a scan disk(or the like) to see if the errors are fixable??( but linux runs fine)H mmm ..Is this because linux resides on a partition on the same disc as xp that may not be damaged ....

A few random thoughts

 

Get the manufactures diagnostic tools &
Check for new mobo drivers too.
How long does the system run b4 locking? Is it sitting idle for a period?

 

It freezes up more frequently when it is idle, And when I am multitasking! And thanks I will try running some utilities to see if that fixes anything!
