New computer/Microsoft downloads??

    FINALLY got new computer, had ME, now have XP-Pro, checked and have 13 hrs of Microsoft Updates to download, how quick should I do these, any order?? Computer guy put Zone Alarm on, said AVG, which I really liked on old computer, was getting ready to take off free virus protection. How do I know what to Allow and what to Deny? Hate these decisions.
