nothing is comming on i checked everything only thing that seems to be working is the little yellow light but the psu dont come on or anything and it cant be the psu because he pulled it out and tested it on another pc and it worked fine so it makes me think that the mobo is bad should we replace it?

have you reset the cmos?are all the parts standard dell or have you added some, what parts do you have connected ATM,has the comp ever worked, when did it stop working, what exactly happens when you 1.plug it in 2.press the power switch

yes the pc worked befor but now nothing we have to get this thing working

when i plug it in i see the little light on the motherboard on but when the power is pushed nothing happens so i bypass the power butten on the front still nothing so i pulled out the processor and tried again and nothing happen so i thin pulled the ram still nothing the psu is good i tried it in another pc and it worked fine so is it safe to say the motherboard is dead if so what motherboard would fit in a DELL dimension 4600

Dell makes me wanna puke!!!!! LOL

I'm going throught he same problem with a friends Dimension 2350, and he is ordering a new mobo from dell ($109.00) for a stupid mini atx board, but everything is "ONBOARD"!!

So...anyway...after LOTS of research...a new dell mobo was the only way to go!! Don't know how firmiliar you are with dells service, etc., but...on the back or side is a thing called the "Service Tag #" and that number will allow you to look up the system specs here...

    http://support.dell.com/support/troubleshooting.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

I ended up calling customer service to find out the price...which you will need the service tag number and the social security # of your first born child along with the birth date of your dog, and how many pet fish you have!!! They were a major pain in the ass...but unfortunately that is the only way to accomplish having a new board sent to you!!

I also did alot of research on putting a third part board in it.............DON"T GO THERE!!!!

ok lol well i took out the processor and placed it in my pc so after i get it in place me cpu fan and stuff on it and power it up i get no video and 2 long high thin low beeps that repeat so i beleave not only the mobo is dead but also the processor is dead too because i cant get nothing to come out of the mobo what would be the cheapest thing to do
1.have the guy forget about this one and get him a new one
2.order him a new board, processor and what ever eles might be worng with it
3.use what we can from it and bulid him a new one?

Well...with the board i'm getting costing over 100 dollars...I would imagine the cpu will cost an arm, leg, and a left nut!!! If the processor is dead...then how do you know if the board is dead also...it just be the cpu making everything look dead!!

Personally...I would talk him into building something, but that is going to cost atleast 300-400 dollars (atleast from what I see on tiger direct and what you can salvage out of the dell) But keep in mind that it will be open architecture, so you can modify the specs later or update, or if one thing goes wrong you can replace just that, and you're not stuck buying parts from one and only person, that is definately going to stick it to ya without lube'n ya up first!!

But that just my own personal opinion...You might not like that idea!!?? It all depends on the dollar you want to spend!!

it depends on what the guy wants to spend. i know the mobo must be dead because if i pull the pro and the ram out and try to power up i should get sounds peeps and so on but i dont. the ram is not bad the psu is not bad the 40gig hdd is not bad same as the floppy and cd-rw so with that in mind i think the only stuff the guy would need for a new pc is a case, motherboard, and a processor right?

and a psu, and a new os...because the os that came with his dell will not work with ANYTHING else...and I know that dell sometimes changes their wiring, and the connectors on their psu, and mobo, so neither will match up with anything other than dell to dell!! I would say you could try the dell psu with a third party mobo, BUT...even if the connectors, connect properly...that doesn't mean the rails aren't wired differently...and I would be afraid that would be the chance of frying the new third party components you just bouhgt!!!!! So I would definately just get a new psu to go with the new build!!

(when ever i come across someone wanting a new computer i all ways tell them to get someone to bulid them a new one because it will save them money in the long run) because see like with mine i made it so it will last me a long time but it is easily upgrade able for if anything should go bad
