New Computer Problems

My dad just got my mom a cheap little HP computer with a 17" flatscreen. Everything is hooked up correctly because it's worked for about a week. Now when she turns it on everything works except the monitor, while on, only shows blackness, and I can't access the menu for the monitor so it can't be it's contrast or anything, I'm not sure what's going on. Help?

 

One thing you might try as a diagnostic tool is pluging the same monitor into another computer (if you have it) or the same computer into another monitor (again, if you have it or have a generous friend). That will at least allow you to isolate the problem to a) your video card b) your monitor or c) other.

Beyond that, I'm affraid I don't have the knowledge to be of much help.

 

Thanks for all input. I checked the cords and the power light is blue which with this computer is an indication that the monitor is on and getting a signal. It's orange if not. So everything is just as it would be, except the monitor isn't showing anything.

I will run MKorostoff's tests and report back.

 

Just take it back to the dealer.

 

Do you have an extra monitor to check your dad's hp computer just in case that flat screen monitor has gone bad?

 

Mind if I ask the model number? HP F1703's had numerous problems and were recalled.
