im going to be getting a new computer this week.
instead of going from a new computer with not much protection, could i use older versions of programs such as firewall/anti virus that i allready have saved on CD ?
example. i have an older version of ZoneAlarm from Sept08(7.0.483.0). instead of connecting online with the new computer and downloading ZoneAlarm from the start, is it ok to load the older version of ZoneAlarm and then just do an update?

question about ZoneAlarm. i checked the latest one(8.0.298.000) available here..

i notice the file size says 260 KB. thats awfully small compared to the one i have on CD that is 44 MB. why such a drastic size in files?

question 2 about ZoneAlarm. is the older version i have compatible with Vista? and if unknown how do i find out?

Occasionally the in-software updates will be buggy and/or fail.

I'd recommend downloading the latest versions ahead of time to put them on a CD.

Can't answer the ZoneAlarm thing, although perhaps the version on MG is a "wrapper," which is a small file you download, and when you launch it, it will download the full installer and execute it.

    Edit: Dang crosspost!

im currently on dial up, but i have someone coming out on Wednesday to my parents to check if we can get high speed Bell Wimax. someone who lives within 5 minutes of us just recently got it so we should be able to get it aswell.
starting with high speed im going to a brand new computer. my parents were out today and are picking one up for me. the guy at the store said they have to load stuff onto the harddrive and it will be ready tomorrow for me to come in and pick up, but im not even sure what they are loading on.
i assume then once i got online high speed with the new computer and i can just download the newest version of ZoneAlarm then and not worry about the security programs i allready have on CD?

my dad went on the weekend and bought the one computer i picked out from the flyer, and he also bought a new computer himself. on both computers was installed 2009 Norton Internet Security and Norton Utilities.
i assume those are used instead of something like ZoneAlarm and AntiVir anti virus ?
since im more comfortable with Zone Alarm firewall and AntiVir anti virus, could i remove the Norton ones and download/install the ones i like?
i guess in that case i could keep the Norton while im first online until i download ZoneAlarm/AntiVir and THEN go offline to remove the Norton and install what i downloaded ?
