New computer - what do I need to do for router?

I have a new computer coming very soon and will be wanting to connect it to the internet via a router that I have on my old computer.

Some very basic questions:-:-o

- after reading a lot on security for my new computer I found that had the default login details for my router, so I finally worked out how to access the controls for the router and added a password and a few other changes. My question is, is this password linked to my old computer like an administator's computer (?) or is it all internet based and I can just change my computer and have no problems with the router? As you can tell I know very little about this.

- Can I plug my new computer into the router and have both my new and the old computer plugged in and have internet access?

- If I plugged my new computer in with my new computer will any virus or malware be transfered to me new computer? Or should I disconect the old computer. The old Computer is having troubles and needs to be "debugged" and cleaned.

1. Passwords are not linked to the OS. Each PW is for the router only. You can change computers and PWs on routers will not change.

2. Yes, you can plug any and all computers into your new router as long as MAC filtering isn't enabled (which I highly doubt is) and you have DHCP turned on.

3. Malware can be transferred between computers via router. It would be best to follow the Malware Removal sticky ( http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 )on your old computer to make sure that everything is clean so that malware isn't transferred.
